Queens, New York
Queens, New York, is geographically the largest of the five boroughs in New York City, covering over 100 square miles, and it is the second most populous borough behind Brooklyn. It is located east of the city on Long Island and is home to 2.3 million people according to the 2010 census, which makes it the tenth most populous county in the United States. The community of Queens was created in 1683, and was one of the original twelve counties of New York. It officially became a borough of New York just over two hundred years later in 1897. Currently, it is home to the Citicorp Building – One Court Square – which is the tallest building in the city outside of Manhattan Island, and it is also home to New York City’s two major airports, John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia International Airport. Additionally, the New York Mets play their home games in Queens at Citi Field, and the U.S. Open Championship tennis tournament is played at Flushing Meadows Park in Queens as well. In addition to athletics, the borough is a hub of music – particularly jazz in the mid-20th century, and more recently many hip-hop artists have come from Queens. Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, Run D.M.C., Kid & Play, A Tribe Called Quest, and LL Cool J all hail from Queens, as does Simon & Garfunkel and several members of The Ramones. The New York court system is an unfamiliar place for most people, and attempting to navigate such a system without the aid of a seasoned New York attorney is risky and unadvisable. You are already dealing with the considerable stress caused by the onset of the legal proceedings, and attempting to decipher the many rules, statutes, and cases without assistance is an incredibly daunting task. When your rights are at stake, it is especially important to seek the help of a lawyer who has a thorough understanding of New York and federal laws.
